How to display the content of my tablet on my TV?

multiple benefits

Broadcast the content of a tablet  on the screen of a television, an idea that may seem a bit crazy, but which is far from being new: this is the whole principle of screen mirroring, which literally means creating a mirror from one screen to another. A form of digital projection that can have multiple interests. For example, if you tend to use your tablet to take everyday photos or vacation shots, you may want to share them with those around you on the big screen, rather than passing the tablet from hand to hand for a whole evening. You may also want to do the same with videos, whether it's your own video shootings, or movies or series that you store on your tablet. It is also possible to broadcast the image of a video conference on Skype or Google Meet, for example, on your big screen.

The other situation, very widespread, where to broadcast the content of a tablet on a television  can be very useful, it is when the content in question comes from an entertainment application like Netflix, YouTube or Disney +. If the functionality of your connected TV is too limited to download the apps in question, then your tablet can come to the rescue. We can also imagine the sharing of board game applications on the big screen, or of homework help broadcasting on television… the potential is enormous and the advantage of the approach is being able to interact in real time with the content broadcast. If you have a tablet running Android, such as the Thomson TEO 10X , you have several possibilities to share the content of the tablet on your TV. Here they are.

The wired connection

This solution goes through an adapter which converts the image / sound signal from the tablet in order to transmit it to the TV. The Thomson TEO 10 Power has a micro-USB 2.0 port: you therefore need a cable that has this connector at one end, and an MHL or SlimPort-compatible connector on the other. To find out which standard is compatible with your TV, please refer to its technical sheet. It is relatively likely that your TV has an MLH-compatible HDMI input, but better to check before investing in a suitable cable.

The wired connection therefore requires investing in a suitable accessory, but it has the advantage of being simple to set up once the tablet and the TV are connected. It is a useful method if you do not want to search for functions within the parameters of your devices, and if you have the possibility of continuing to handle the tablet even if it is connected to the TV: you should ideally opt for a cable of an appropriate length.

The disadvantage of the method is that as the TV becomes a mirror of the tablet, the latter must remain switched on all the time for the content sharing process to work. This solution is useful for sharing photos and videos or even a videoconference call.

Wireless connection via Miracast

Miracast is a technology born many years ago, and which is still very popular today for owners of smartphones and tablets who want to stream content on a TV without the hassle of wire. Android supports Miracast since version 4.2: this means that the Thomson TEO 10X touch tablet manages this technology without any problem.

The first step in order to use Miracast is to activate the function within your TV if it has one. If the technology can take a different name depending on the TV brand, it is usually always in the same location of the TV interface menu, namely in the network settings and then in the Wi-Fi section. Nothing is more normal since Miracast uses Direct Wi-Fi in order to operate properly. When you have activated it on your television set, then go to the settings of your tablet and look for a function called "Screen broadcast". Your TV should then be recognized by the tablet, and you just have to choose it to start the screen mirroring of your small tablet screen on the big TV screen.

Once connected, you can launch all the applications and content you want from your tablet on your TV. But beware, just like the wired connection, you must keep the tablet switched on and handle it for the sharing process to operate properly. On the other hand, with Miracast, the range is much greater than with a wired connection, thanks to the power of Wi-Fi.

Wireless connection via Chromecast

The Thomson TEO 10X tablet being fully compatible with Chromecast, there is no reason to leave this possibility aside! It is the most seamless and cost-effective wireless connection method available today. However, it has the potential of a basic drawback, since it requires a connected TV that has the Chromecast system on board. This is the case for most recent televisions with Android TV.

If this is not the case for your model, you can invest in a small Chromecast box which, for a few tens of euros, offers you many possibilities.

To use Chromecast wireless connectivity, you must also use compatible applications. But they are very numerous: entertainment apps like Netflix, Disney +, YouTube,  Molotov, Spotify, Deezer, Facebook,  but also dozens of video games, web browsers or photo viewers can support also Chromecast.

To use Chromecast, the tablet and the TV must be connected to the same Internet network, wired or Wi-Fi. Then, you can use the "Screen broadcast or screen sharing " function of your tablet to broadcast and share the selected content on your TV. You can go directly to the application you want to share: the latter generally has, at the top right of its interface menu, a small button representing a screen decorated with a broadcast signal. Once this function is activated, the connection is made after a few moments.

The advantage of Chromecast technology is that once the broadcast starts, you do not need to keep the tablet screen on all the time if you do not need it. However, it is the tablet that remains the control center of the connection. For instance, if you want to scroll through photos, raise or lower the sound or even change the video.

A potential adapted to your needs

Broadcasting and sharing the content of a tablet on a TV is therefore quite possible, at the cost of a few manipulations that take, at most, a few minutes. Enough to extend the potential of your Thomson TEO 10 tablet every day!
